The SRTC Wildland Fire Medical Technician Training Academy is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the role of Fireline Medic (EMPF) or Fireline EMT (EMTF) as a Single Resource on Wildland Fires. Being a Fireline Medic or EMT is a challenging and lucrative seasonal occupation! However, companies still struggle to find quality and qualified personnel every season to fill resource orders. Many other courses are classroom only! This course will immerse our candidates in the field environment! Better preparing you for the real challenges of working on the fire lines.


Topics include position overview; supplies and equipment; assignments as a Single Resource; lessons learned; Medical Unit Leader expectations; emergency evacuations; communications; documentation; navigation; individual responsibilities; wildland safety considerations; and medical emergencies specific to the wildland arena. This class gives the candidate the practical skill set and mental preparedness to be a deployment ready EMPF or EMT. The course is built on current guidelines and best practices for the position.


This course requires and online distance learning section and a 5 day in-person training session. Both must be completed to graduate from the academy. The distance learning information will be emailed to you within 30 days of the start of the course. The candidate must submit the completed certificate at sign-in.


Upon successful completion of the course the candidate will receive: 

1. A S-130 Field Day Certificate.

2. Annual Work Capacity Completion Certificate.

3. Wildland Fire Medical Technician Certificate.

4. Letter with organizations that employ EMTFs and EMPFs for you to apply with. 

5. Completed SRTC Position Task Book(PTB) for EMPF or EMTF respectively.

6. 24 hour NREMT Refresher Certificate. 


This course meets or exceeds the currently established Firescope Curriculum for EMTF & EMPF; S-223.


Course Prerequisites:
1. Current EMT, EMT-Advanced, or EMT-Paramedic certification

2. ICS 100, 200, 700, 800

3. Wildland Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2)  Online Training Certificates

    - S-130

    - S-190

    - L-180
4. Arduous fitness test ready. 

5. Completion of the online SRTC Fireline Medical Modules (Link will be sent after registration. No added cost.)

Additional Recommended Training: 

1. A-100 Basic Aviation Safety Course

2. Wilderness EMT / AWLS Course Completion


A complete packing list for the course will be sent to you upon registration! All candidates are required to have a completion certificates for the online training in hand upon arrival. Candidates are also required to possess the items listed on the packing list. 


Attendance does not guarantee employment or PTB Completion.


PTBs will be signed off as you complete the required tasks satisfactorily. 


 

 

LODGING: Lodging is not reserved for this course. There are several hotels nearby in addition to the training location.

 


MEALS: Lunch will be provided as part of the course tuition. Dinner will be provided on Day 3. Be sure to fill out the nutrition preferences & allergies section on the course registration.

 

 

COURSE POLICIES


Registration Policy

Payment in full is required to reserve your spot in the course. Tuition is non-transferable and is payable by check, credit card, paypal or cash. Tuition covers textbooks, syllabus, course equipment, and certification cards. SRTC is not obligated to allow any student to attend a course until SRTC paperwork has been received, reviewed and approved by SRTC. A full refund will be given if we need to cancel the course for any reason. Any equipment purchases made at anytime are required to be paid in full and are non-refundable.



Cancellation & Refund Policy

 If a student cancels out of the course or withdrawals from a course:

-  If greater than or equal to 45 days prior to the starting date of the course, SRTC will 

   retain a $55.00 site cancelation fee.

-  Within 45 days of the course start date, tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.

-  Participants that cancel or withdraw from a course are still responsible for cancelation fees even if payment has not been sent or processed. (Applies if you cancel within 45 days of a course.)

- All equipment purchases are non-refundable. 

A full refund will be given if we need to cancel the course for any reason.


Late Payment Policy

Participants that register and choose pay via company check or personal check must submit payment in a timely manner. Payment is due no later than 10 days after your registrations is submitted. If payment is not post marked prior to this date a late fee will be assessed. Late fees will either be invoiced separately or added to any outstanding balance.
- Initial late fee is $25.00
- An additional fee of $10.00 per day will also be assessed if payment is delayed past 14 days from registration. This fee is retroactive to the date of registration. 


SRTC Student Agreement

(Including Assumption of Risks and Agreement of Release of Indemnity)

A course student agreement will be sent to you upon completion of registration. Please sign, return it and read it carefully as it affects your legal rights. Bring the two-page signed document to the first day of the course. If you are a minor, a parent or guardian must sign the document as well. Without a signed document, you cannot participate in the course. SRTC course participants, including minors, will have unsupervised free time throughout the course. Any activities during the free time are not part of the SRTC program and are at the sole risk of the participant.
