WILDERNESS & EXPEDITION MEDICINE SYMPOSIUM: THE ROOF OF AFRICA

Dates:     3 - 15 JUN 2024     (12 Seats Only)

Join us for the 5th annual Wilderness & Expedition Medicine Symposium and 1st African Adventure!

Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro and conquering it is considered by many the accomplishment of a lifetime. Trekking up Kilimanjaro is also probably the most popular high altitude trek in the whole world! Why not accomplish a life long dream and learn about wilderness medicine along the way!

The reason for Kilimanjaro’s Trekking popularity is obvious; It is the highest free standing mountain in the world and one of the Seven Summits. You don’t need any technical mountaineering skills at all. That is correct as in that you need no climbing experience. But that doesn’t mean it’s just a walk in the park.

A Kilimanjaro trekking is still a very demanding adventure! Even if it takes no special mountaineering skills, having some previous trekking experience makes a huge difference to your chances to reach the summit. Dont't worry though! We will keep you busy and your mind occupied as we trek and immerse you in the world of wilderness and expeditionary medicine. Each day you will take part in hands on and group work that will drive home learning concepts and challenge your medical skills!

Our team will trek The Lemosho Route during our 9 day round trip trek of Kilimanjaro. The Lemosho Route is one of the best options for climbing Kilimanjaro. The route provides plenty of time for acclimatization and takes in the entire scenery of the mountain as it practically traverses it from west to east. The access via the western route requires a bit longer drive to the trail head but is well worth it as you get to drive through some wild country and may even be lucky enough to spot buffalo or an elephant.

Upon returning to Moshi from our trek we will spend a day resting and recuperating and then the team will spend two days in the "bush" on camping Safari! this 2 Day Safari will allow you to see two spectacular National Parks, allowing you plenty of opportunity for great wildlife viewing and game drives. First, enjoy Tarangire National Park, known for its' splendid Boabab Trees and herbivore population, where you are able to enjoy magnificent views of zebras, wildebeests, giraffes and elephants. From there, continue on to the Ngorongoro Crater, where if you are lucky, you'll be able to get a glimpse of hippos, as well as some of the infamous predators in the region.

Be advised: The Wilderness & Expedition Medicine Symposium: The Roof of Africa is strenuous and you should be in excellent physical condition. This trekking experience does not require that you have any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. All you need is the willingness to endure the stress and potential hardships of the trip and be a avid adventurer at heart!
