This course provides emergency responders with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish and manage effective rehabilitation operations during emergency incidents. Students will explore the physiological and psychological impacts of working in hazardous environments, review NFPA 1584 standards, and learn how to develop and implement rehab protocols that ensure personnel safety, readiness, and recovery on-scene. The course covers hydration, nutrition, medical monitoring, mental health considerations, and crew rotation strategies to reduce the risk of heat stress, overexertion, and injury.
This course is specifically designed for EMS professionals who are tasked with establishing, staffing, or supporting emergency incident rehabilitation operations. EMS responders play a critical role in maintaining the health and operational readiness of personnel working in high-stress or hazardous environments such as structure fires, extended rescues, wildland incidents, and disaster responses.
Participants will review the key components of NFPA 1584 and apply medical knowledge to develop effective rehab protocols that include hydration, cooling strategies, medical assessment, psychological support, and crew rotation procedures. The course emphasizes how to assess and monitor vital signs, identify signs of exertional illness or injury, and determine when transport or removal from operations is required. Students will also learn how to set up a functional rehab area, including resource considerations, documentation practices, and integration with the incident command structure.
Whether responding to fires, extended rescue operations, hazardous materials incidents, or wildland deployments, this class emphasizes the importance of a structured and well-coordinated rehab process to preserve the health and performance of emergency personnel.
REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 5:00PM EST ON THE DAY OF THE CLASSES. THE CLASS REMINDER AND LOGON INFORMATION WILL BE SENT NO SOONER THAN 12:00 EST ON THE DAY OF THE COURSES.
